Marc Simmons

One of three boys born to the union Esther and Bernard Simmons, as orchestrated by Mammon. Marc, the oldest of the three, was most uncomfortable with his mother's relationship with the man he knew as "Malefick" (Mammon). When Mammon returned to the Simmons house while the boys were in college, Marc told his mother that he was going to finally tell their father about Malefick. Al, however, forcefully instructed Marc that he would "mind his own business."

As an adult, Marc married, had a child, and became the FBI's top criminal profiler. Ironically, his wife and child were murdered by an unknown killer that Marc could not track down, but who fueled his passion for his career.

When Marc was tasked with investigating the Kenneth Erskine murders, fate led him to be reintroduced to his younger brother Al, who had died and become a hellspawn. Together, they uncovered the truth about Mammon's meddling with their family.

Mark “of the Beast”

A man obsessed with Hell and the occult that liked to be called "Mark of the Beast". Mark was in charge of a squatter's house for a time, where he ruled over his tenants and had them sell drugs for him to earn money. Through extensive research, Mark discovered what he thought would be a sure way to gain power in Hell - he planned to trade places with Al Simmons as the current hellspawn.

To accomplish this, he began an arcane ritual in which Spawn was drawn to the house and imprisoned. There Mark explained his plans to Spawn, who humored him by giving Mark a tour of his own personal Hell. At the end of the tour, Mark was sent to the top of a tower that would test his resolve with every step.

All long the way, Spawn gave Mark the chance to back out, but Mark pushed on. At the top, Mark returned to reality as he was thrown from the rooftop of his squatters house and was impaled on a fountain sculpture.

Much later, when Spawn returned to Hell to battle Malebolgia, he once again encountered Mark. Mark cursed Spawn for tricking him, but did not give up on his quest for power. After the death of Malebolgia, Hell was engulfed in civil war in which Mark led a revolt of damned souls against the demons.

Mark Lucas

Mark Lucas was a good kid. He was well liked by all who knew him, he volunteered at church and did well in school. One day, for reasons unknown to even him, Mark felt compelled to take his father's gun (which he coveted) to church and start shooting.

He killed 3 people, including his priest, and injured 4 others. After the shootings Lucas briefly went into hiding, he received help from at least one of his friends. He didn't know why he had done what he did and wished that he could take it back. Unsure how to cope, Mark returned to the same church and shot himself after begging for forgiveness.

Little did Mark know that he had been temporarily possessed by the spirit of Billy Kincaid. Billy tempted Mark's dark desires and led him down the path of his destruction. Unfortunately, Mark's soul was then damned to Hell for its sins despite Billy's interference through a process called Diabolus Interium.

Marshal of Bane*

After the small frontier town of Bane discovered silver, the marshal had difficulty maintaining law and order. Businessmen like Ed Kemper had the true power, which they earned and maintained by intimidation and violence.

After the marshal arrested Jeremy "Ol' Job" Winston for the murders of his family and two of Kemper's men, he met an outlaw by the name of Francis Charles Parker. Winston was killed by Kemper's men while he awaited trial and returned as a hellspawn to reap revenge upon the town.

In the carnage, the Marshal saw that Parker was not the evil man he had been made out to be. In one of the marshal's final acts before he was killed by Ol' Job, he telegraphed to Colorado Springs a false account of Parker's death - allowing Parker to go free.

Marston Street Demon*

A demon living within the cellar of the House on Marston Street. The house grew to be a collection of lost souls that were held captive by the demon. He kept them in the house and claimed they were his "food", but they seemed to live somewhat happily as ghosts.

When Spawn and Twitch came to the house to rescue Twitch's son Max, the ghosts told them Max would not be allowed to leave. The demon emerged from the cellar and attacked Spawn, screaming insults and threats at the hellspawn. Spawn fought back and somehow opened a vortex that sucked the house and its inhabitants away, possibly to Hell. Only Spawn, Twitch and Max remained.
