Frustrated with the progress of Father Halwell in gaining control over Jim Downing, the Catholic church decides to take more drastic steps.

Unaware of those plotting against him, Downing continues to listen and learn from Cogliostro at the Dead Zone while Daniel Kilgore continues to investigate those who have been affected by Jim's powers.
