I have read the first 130 issues or so of the main series..and through the reading, I realized that Spawn's clock ceased to exist. Was this ever explained?

It makes sense that after he defeats Malebolgia and becomes the unofficial ruler of the 8th Circle of Hell, that he doesn't have a counter anymore since he can pretty much do whatever he wants.

The problem is that the clock disappeared way before issue 100 when this happens.

Any explanations? Or is it that McFarlane decided to get rid of that whole idea...which is kind of silly considering it seemed to be a huge part of the series early on.

Also, I noticed that in the HBO show, by season 3, the clock did not exist anymore either...I still have 3 episodes left, so maybe it appears toward the end of the season, but I don't remember it in season 2.

It makes an appearance in issue #195, Part 11 to the Endgame story arc. I haven't read it yet, but i saw it while flipping through. McFarlane probably wanted the idea of the clock to disappear from readers minds, one of those things that is there but isn't exactly essential knowledge, since they do mention on a regular basis that Spawn has a limited amount of power. I really liked the idea of the clock and was hoping to see it every time he exerted power, but that isn't the case. =/

No closure on the mystery yet...just more questions. With the current Spawn (Jim Downing) the counter started at 0:0:0:0 and goes up with power use - the reverse of what happened with Al Simmons.
