Spawn figures not from comics.

Post by kanjifreak »

Hi,

Thanks to the people keeping alive this site. I couldn't collect Spawn figures back in the day because I was too young to afford all the figs. I just started collecting them now via other collectors and used toys guys. I love Spawn and read a lot of comics back in the 90's.

Could you direct me to a source or tell me which of all the figures from Spawn did not appear in the comics?

For example, I do not recall many of the Dark ages figures (series 11 and 14) in the comics, let alone all the Vikings, Samurai and Pharaohs stuff.

I do not recall an alien spawn, a pirate spawn, etc.

Could you please help me with that? I only want to buy figures that appeared in comics (Spawn main series and all the spin offs, minis, one-shots, etc, being interior art, or cover art.

Thanks a lot!

That covers the 34 main series of toys. There may be some mistakes, and if anyone catches any, feel free to correct them.

Be aware that there are figures released not in the main lines, and I might make a list for those sometime soon. Until then, I hope this list can prove to be of some help.

For a complete list of toys, go to the Spawn website: http://spawn.com/toys/categorytype.aspx?categoryid=4

Actually, I have yet to buy any figures from anyone specific. While my comic collection is sizable, my collection of Spawn figures consists of a scant three: Spawn III, 10th Anniversary Spawn, and issue 131 Spawn, the first of which I bought at a comic shop nearby, and the other two from eBay.

eBay would really be the best place to look for figures, as you'll be able to find about 90% of all Spawn toys at any given time, loose or boxed, but the prices can sometimes be a bit steep. If you're trying to find toys in a local shop, you'd have to be very lucky to find anything good. Early Spawn toys are easier to find and end up in the dusty backs of comic shops, but more recent stuff is harder to come by. And in all the years I've been going to comic shops, I've only once seen an actual figure of Spawn himself (the Spawn III I have).

Most specialty stores, if they carry McFarlane toys at all, will be carrying his licensed stuff, like movie figures, Halo figures, and Walking Dead figures (Walking Dead merch is insanely popular right now in DVD and video game shops, so figures of that series are practically guaranteed in such stores). I've also seen McFarlane's monster playsets in one of the previously mentioned comic shops, and the Tortured Souls figures (which have been there a very long time because anyone who sees them is too disgusted to buy them - the figures were even moved onto a wall touching the ceiling so as to be kept from easy view), and over the years I've seen a Mandarin Spawn figure or two show up, and up until recently there was a Medieval Spawn / Malebolgia two-pack sitting on a shelf. They've even had a Spawn Alley playset signed by McFarlane. But yet another comic shop I go to has never had a single Spawn toy for sale for as long as I can remember. So trying to buy the figures from stores can be very unreliable.

If I had to suggest another way to purchase figures other than eBay, I'd say trying your luck at a comic convention. I've been to NYCC, a Wizard Con, and a few smaller cons, and there have been booths full to the brim with action figures of all kinds. It would be very likely that they'd have some Spawn toys on display or tucked away somewhere.

Thanks again for your reply.

Just one final question:

I have flipped through all my Spawn Comics 1-185 and I cannot find the Clown 3 from series 17 depiction.

Do you know if he appears as that on any Spawn related book?

I'm fairly sure there's no point in any Spawn book where Clown appears tied up in a straight jacket while missing a part of his face. What makes the figure even more strange is that Clown's blood appears red, while in the comic he is shown to bleed green in both his Violator and human forms. It looks like I overlooked this figure so I'll retroactively declare it as (does NOT appear in comic).

Ok, let's keep this thread alive. It is always cool to talk to Spawn fans.

What about Warrior Lillith? I think I saw her on Curse of the Spawn years ago, but don't have those books to double check.

Young Cogliostro? I believe he never appeared as that, again it's been years since I checked.

Black Heart and Black Knight are the same? Do both have a cameo on i163? Don't they appear on Dark Ages? (Again, don't have the books, sold them long ago).

Isn't Vertebraker one of the monsters from Violator or Violator vs Badrock mini series, can't remember exactly (don't have those books now either), you know, the super cool art where all the brothers appear for the first time?

Isn't the Ninja Spawn the guy that appears around 150-185 just as part of the Hellspawns from legion or the ones that Spawn calls out to choose sides in Hell once the throne was vacant?

Does the Spawn from Series 31 ever appear in that pose? I don't remember him with the handkerchief covering his nose and mouth, just remember the one from the cover art that has some kind of cloth covering all his head as in a desert fight.

Isn't Goddess Llyra in her goddess form the chick on the cover of Godslayer 000?

I also think that Poacher has some sort of Cameo on the first pages of Curse of the Spawn?

Isn't the Samurai Spawn the dude that appears on the tale of the origin of the old Japanese guy and some chick that then were part of the Legion?

Oh and what about the Redemption Spawn with bat wings? I'm sure Jim Downing appears like that somewhere around i200, but does Al Simmons ever have bat wings?

What do you think?
