Soon after, the Romany Girl was transferred by a Nazi colonel as a gift to his brother-in-law in Berlin. The SS officer that had fallen in love with her later committed suicide because of her departure.

Many years later, a Nazi lampshade was sold in the backroom of a military collectible store called the War Chest. The lampshade had been made in the war of human skin, and it carried the rose tattoo of the Romany Girl.

Ruth worked in a small town café called the Gooseberry. When Spawn wandered into town as Al Simmons, the town seemed strange to him, and he noticed they seemed obsessed with little devils.

He asked Ruth about the devils and the festival they were having (called the Teind), and she explained that Teind was a festival of tithing. As for the devils, she explained that the town has a tradition to keep the devil out in the open where he can't hurt you.

Later that night, however, Spawn snuck into the Teind celebration and discovered Ruth and the other townspeople about to give a little girl away to the Forgotten Ones for sacrifice.

Unbeknownst to Ruth and the others, Spawn saved the little girl thus ruining the Teind forever.
