Lance of Heaven

The term "Lance of Heaven" can refer figuratively to a Seraphic huntress, and literally to the weapon she carries.

The weapon is a long ornate lance which can create a dimensional resonance that, when activated near a hellspawn, will send its victim back to Hell.

When Spawn activated Angela's lance accidentally it redefined his reality briefly, but somehow he managed to return to our reality. Something that no hellspawn had done before, and something that drew the attention of many curious parties. The missing lance led to charges of High Treason being filed against Angela (charges that were later dropped).

Later, Spawn used the same lance in the Archives of the Hellspawn to pin Mammon into a corner and permanently scar his face. Spawn had apparently become immune to the lance's effects since he "quit" being a hellspawn.

A short time later, Angela returned to Earth and reacquired her lance herself.

Legion of Lost Souls

A term referring to the 6000 or so lost souls trapped within Spawn since the day of his inception. All 6000 souls died within the same hour as Al Simmons, and they were fused by Mother into the newly created hellspawn without the knowledge of Malebolgia or Mammon.

Spawn struggled with their presence for years - constantly hearing voices in his head but not understanding why. As the events of Armageddon drew closer, it was revealed to Spawn that he was not alone in his body, and the souls were all hidden within him.

Briefly, he learned to control them by drawing them to the surface as needed as a sort of reinforcement. After the White Light, however, the souls were released from him and Al Simmons was alone once more.

Later, when Al was separated from his symbiote and at the mercy of Morana, Cyan revealed to him that he still had a connection with some of the souls and could call them back to him once again. Spawn did so, and about a dozen or so old friends returned to join in the fight, including Christopher and the Kitamuras.

Unfortunately, they were all quickly defeated, but they did distract Morana long enough to be defeated by Nyx. Faced with yet another death, Christopher said that he was not afraid, for he has seen the other side and "its beyond Heaven and Hell, a place where you can be at peace."

Finally, all members of the Legion departed the void they called Sanctuary except one. A man named Jim Downing remained behind: in case any other souls one day were deposited there, they would not be alone.
